MEET AGE REQUIREMENTS...
Be a boy who has completed the fifth grade, or is 10 1/2 years old, or has earned the Arrow of Light Award, but is under 18 years old.

COMPLETE A BOY SCOUT APPLICATION AND HEALTH HISTORY SIGNED BY YOUR PARENT OR GUARDIAN.
This was done either at the first troop meeting or at the Join Scouting Night at your school.

FIND A SCOUT TROOP NEAR YOUR HOME.
WELCOME to Troop 813.

REPEAT THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
Duty to Country.

DEMONSTRATE THE SCOUT SIGN, SALUTE, AND HANDSHAKE.
These are part of Boy Scout customs and traditions.

DEMONSTRATE TYING THE SQUARE KNOT.
The square knot is a joining knot, and one that is shared by every Scout the world over.

UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO LIVE BY THE SCOUT OATH OR PROMISE, LAW, MOTTO, SLOGAN, AND THE OUTDOOR CODE.
These are the things that guide a Scout in their daily lives.

DESCRIBE THE SCOUT BADGE.
The badge of the First Class Boy Scout.

COMPLETE THE PAMPHLET EXERCISES.
With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide. When you have completed this requirement, get your parent or guardian to sign and date the front page of your book.

PARTICIPATE IN A SCOUTMASTER CONFERENCE.
This is a talk you and your Scoutmaster will have for each rank. It is a time for you both get to know each other better.
